Formed in April, 2025, our mission is to research, write, and share the history of the Kennon family, Old Brick House, and other sites associated with the Kennons. It is further our goal to have sources for all of the information we share and publish, to have a better, more accurate account of the history of the Kennon family and any sites or places associated with them. Some subject matter can be difficult and sensitive, but in order to tell a full, accurate, and more complete history, the so called “tough stuff of history”, we feel it necessary and appropriate to tackle those hard subjects head on. We do have a “board” that consists of four members (currently the original founders), but a loosely formed one. None of us has a title or position as we feel it is important for all of us to have an equal say and no one is above another.
Laurel Scott
An award-winning journalist, horsewoman and living historian, Laurel is also an amateur genealogist who traces her ancestry to the earliest English colonists in her native Virginia. She is connected to the Kennons of Old Brick House as a direct descendant of Elizabeth Worsham Kennon’s brother John (also known as Captain John Worsham the Elder). As an OBH board member several years ago, Laurel helped research, write and develop the site’s first interpretive signs and promotional materials. When she’s not researching or writing, she’s often spinning wool on her antique spinning wheels or interpreting in costume at various historic sites.
Her work in this vein includes developing civilian programming for national Civil War events during the 150th anniversary cycle, as well as a decade as a contract interpreter at Virginia’s Henricus Historical Park (representing the period 1611-22). As a Revolutionary War reenactor, Laurel helps recreate history with the 7th Virginia Regiment (Continental Line) and HM 64th of Foot (British Brigade). She has also made appearances at Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown as Elizabeth Randolph Chiswell in the 2023 production of “Was It Murder?” and as Henry’s sister Annie Christian at “Henry’s Ride for Liberty,” the site’s 250th commemorative event in March, 2025. Last but definitely not least, Laurel enjoys exploring the beautiful Virginia countryside with her beloved dog, Franny.

My name is Ann Kennon Breslauer, and I’m delighted to welcome you to our ancestral site — a place to explore, celebrate, and deepen our understanding of the Kennon legacy.
My love of history began with a life-changing experience when I was just 10 years old, walking the ancient streets of Pompeii in 1969. That moment sparked a lifelong passion for history, cultures, and people from every era and every part of the world. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to spend over 50 years traveling the globe, driven by curiosity and connection.
Genealogy found me through family — as it often does. In my 20s and 30s, an older cousin, a dedicated genealogist herself, saw my growing interest and generously shared her research and mentorship with me. While raising my own family, I wasn’t yet able to dive deeply into the archives, but as time passed and my children grew, I found myself drawn more and more into the work she had begun. I’m now in my mid-60s, and continue her work with deep gratitude and wonder.
I’m proud to be a 11th-generation descendant of Richard Kennon and Elizabeth Worsham, among the early settlers of Virginia. Here is my direct line:

Hi everyone, welcome to our group!!! My love of history goes back to my childhood. My parents took me on vacations to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown multiple times a year in my younger years. They passed their love of history on to me. To this day, I still go to Williamsburg area several times a year and always learn something new. That’s the thing about history, no matter how much you think you know, you can always learn something new. I also have a love of working on genealogy, stemming back to 2007. I have a B.A. in history with a concentration in Public History from Longwood University, Magna Cum Laude. Over the years, I have volunteered at a few historic sites, including Historic Chelsea in King William County, Virginia and with the Old Brick House Foundation as well as participation in Civil War reenactments and living history events in years past. My area of expertise is mainly in Virginia History from the pre-colonial period to the antebellum period. I especially love researching documents to include in my writings from archival repositories in the Richmond, Virginia area, where I live, and deciphering the old-style handwriting of the time. In the Fall of 2020, I started a personal blog, Todd’s Archives, where I write articles on history, mostly Virginia history. I served on the board of the Old Brick House Foundation as their Chair of Publicity from July 2024 until April 2025. I myself am a descendant of the Kennon family. I hope that you all enjoy the history that we present on here and that you learn something new from our research.
